Abstract (EN)

Purpose:The purpose of this study is to evaluate the health development behaviors of students in nursing and medical education and to determine the sociodemographic attributes which affect these behaviors. Material and Method: Researchsample is constituted by 534 students studying in YildirimBeyazit University Medical Faculty and Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Nursing. Data are gathered in March-May 2016 anonymously with a survey and Healthy Lifestyle Behavior (HLB-II) scale. Findings: Among the individuals participating in the study, 26.8 % of them (n=143) are men, 73.2 % of them (n=391) are women. 283 of them are from Medical Faculty, 251 of them are from Department of Nursing. It is determined that Healthy Lifestyle Behavior-II scale score average is medium level (130.00 ± 17.62), highest score is taken from the subscale of spirituality, and lowest score is taken from the subscale of physical activity. It is significantly determined that general scale, health responsibility, nutrition, interpersonal relationship scores are higher in nursery students compared to medical students. Health responsibility and interpersonal relationship scores are higher in women; physical activity score is higher in men. Students staying with their parents have significantly higher HLB scale, health responsibility, nutrition, interpersonal relationship sub-dimension scores than the students who do not stay with their parents. Individuals with a chronic illness have significantly higher health responsibilitysub-dimension scores than the ones who do not have a chronic illness. Result: In our study including medical and nursery students, it is found that healthy lifestyle behaviors are medium level. It is necessary to arrange programs to increase health awareness, to review and develop existing programs aiming to increase health awareness, to extend the physical activity programs.
