Abstract (EN)
This thesis analyses the cosmogony and creation stories in Greek mythology. It also emphasises the general characteristics of myths and their role in ancient Greek society. An overview of how myths explain the values of society, its worldview and the workings of the universe is presented. The symbolic expressions and instructive qualities of myths are analysed in the context of cosmogony myths. Greek mythology is a rich body of myths and stories reflecting the beliefs of ancient Greek culture about the cosmic order and the origins of the universe. Starting from Hesiodos' Theogonia, the thesis deals with the myths of the beginning of the universe and the genealogy of the gods in Greek mythology.
