The correlation between self - esteem level and pyschological resilience of adolescents aged 14 - 18

This research has been carried out to study the correlation between the self-esteem level and psychological resilience of high school adolescents. Also, the correlation between self-esteem level and the demographic aspects which are considered to be theoritecally related to self esteem level such as gender, age, birth order, educational background of the parents, comitative of the parents, and perceived socioeconomic status has been researched. This research is designed with relational screening model and the population of the survey is the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th level students of Yalova Anatolian High School. The sample of the research is the 302 voluntary students in which there are 148 females and 154 males. Demographic Information Form, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, Adolescent Psychological Resilience Scale have been used in order to collect data. For the statiscial analysis of the data, SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) for Windows 21.0 has been used. Evaluating the data, descriptive statistical methods have been used (frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation) whereas for the analysis of normal distribution, Kolmogoroz-Smirnov Test has been used and assurance of the normality has been detected for both of the two variates. For self-esteem level p=0,062 (p>0,05), and for psychological resilience p=0,055 (p>0,05) values have been found. The results have been evaluated in 95% confidence interval and the level of significance is p<0,05. The average age of the students who took part in this research is 16,14±1,13. The result of the study reveals that there is a significant correlation between self-esteem level and psychological resilience. It also indicates that when the level of self-esteem becomes higher, psychological resilience becomes stronger, too. The results of the study show that there is a significant correlation between self-esteem level and the variates of age, gender, comitative of the parents and socioeconomic status.
