The effects of 1989 Forced Migration to the Turkey-Bulgaria relations

Turkish minority living in Bulgaria, it been sensitive and substantial issue for Turkey. In this context, concerning with Bulgaria's attitude towards minorities and situation of Turkish minority, bilateral relations has pursued variable process. Throughout history, movement of migration from Bulgaria to Turkey has also been important for bilateral relations. The 1989 Forced Migration confront as the last one of these mass migration. As well as after every wave of migration, bilateral relations has proceeded to different progress after the 1989 too. The main objective of this study is to analyze the impacts of the 1989 Forced Migration on the relations between Turkey and Bulgaria. Qualitative data analysis was used in the study. As a source, works related to the subject in Turkish and English literature were used. In this context, analytic structure of this study is comprise of three sections. In the first section, historical background of the relations between Turkey and Bulgaria was discussed. In the second section was informed about bilateral relations in the Cold War Era and the case of the migration. Finally, in the third section was mentioned the 1989 Forced Migration and the effects of this migration on the bilateral relations. The study was finalized in line with the inferences.
