21st century urban sculpture in America

In this research, we are focused on the position and definition of sculptures in the urban area. Here, the history of the space concept and the historical development of the city sculptures have been investigated, whose effects spread throughout the world and America from the 16th century to Europe and beyond. In this research, sculpture, city and identity concepts were emphasized and effects of the city sculpture were investigated. Additionally, the process of formation was examined and examples of artworks and artists in America were analyzed. Based on the existence, development of the city sculpture and the way of its existence in the city, common and differentiated values are examined through many different examples. In this research, Erman Boran's sources related to the interpretation process were utilized, research sources abroad were examined, and articles around the sculpture, city and identity were aimed to contribute to the Turkish literature. This thesis deals with the analysis of city sculptures made in the USA from the beginning of the 21st century to the present, which some of them still being exhibited today. The importance of the city sculpture, its position in the public space, its meaning, socio-cultural effects in terms of aesthetics, practice and function, the definition of the public space, urban space and space as the place where the sculpture is positioned, and its scope, examining the health and welfare quality of life in urban space, and finally, its importance for the society and individuals is discussed in this study. Urban sculptures, that is, sculptures located in urban areas and outdoors, have been found to be important in the social and cultural existence of the city. As it has been observed to be in interact with feelings and thoughts of people directly. City sculptures are frequently used in parks, museum entrances, building entrances, square and ornamental pools, green areas and similar gathering areas throughout the city.
