Abstract (EN)
This thesis study investigates what rate and type of childhood traumas are experienced in the adult population and examines its demographic breakdowns. In addition; the relationship between childhood traumas and adult schemas was examined. One of the objectives of the thesis is to determine which schemas are heavily involved in society. For this purpose, demographic form, Childhood Trauma Scale and Young Schema Scale were used in the thesis study. Relational results were obtained with the sub-dimensions of the items in these scales. In the literature review part of the thesis, first the concept of trauma is discussed in the historical sense, then the interpersonal traumas that individuals can experience in their childhood are listed. Maltreatment and its psychological/psychiatric consequences were mentioned. The concept of post-traumatic growth has been studied. Next; the concept of schema is mentioned and its cognitive importance is explained. Finally, these schemas which affect the thought and behavior mechanism in adult life due to childhood experiences are examined. The sample consists of adult individuals between the ages of 25-50 who live in Turkey and speak Turkish language. The data was collected on a voluntary basis, and the identity information of the participants was not requested due to the importance of confidentiality. The forms were distributed and obtained online. To touch on the results of the study, statistically significant relationships were found between some sub-dimensions of childhood traumas and the schemas that continue to be effective in adulthood. For example; As emotional abuse, physical abuse, emotional neglect and physical neglect increase, the tendency of participants to show emotional deprivation schema increases. This is one of the unfalsified hypotheses. However, "The most obvious schema in individuals who were physically, emotionally and sexually abused during childhood is insecurity." hypothesis could not be confirmed, because according to the statistics in this study, the mistrust schema was more pronounced in individuals who were neglected, not abused.
