The incidents of september 6-7 1955 and the attitudes of Turkish opinion to these events

In 1955, the Adnan Menderes Government became involved in the Cyprus problem with the pressure of the Turkish public. England invited Turkey and Greece to London to solve this problem. While the Cyprus problem was being discussed in the London Conference, the events that is known as the 6/7 September Incidents would take place in Turkey upon the news that a bomb was thrown at Atatürk's house. The houses and workplaces of Turkish citizens of Greek, Armenian and Jewish origin in Istanbul and Izmir were looted, and the Greek consulate in Izmir was burned in these events in Istanbul, Izmir and Ankara. Moreover, non-Muslim temples and schools were damaged. Prime Minister Adnan Menderes said that all the damages of the citizens who were harmed in the incidents would be paid. The government established the "Committee for Assistance to the Victims of the September 6/7 Events" in order to pay the damages to the citizens who were harmed in the events. This committee started a campaign to recover the damages. In this campaign, in which all segments of the Turkish public participated, more than 8 million TL of aid was collected. The support to the government was not only in the form of financial aid, but the telegrams sent by the Turkish public to the President and Prime Minister of the period also supported the government morally. The activities of the Committee for Assistance to the Victims of the September 6/7 Incidents, which was formed by the government to compensate for the damage caused by the 6/7 September Incidents, didn't become a direct subject of research on the 6/7 September Incidents. Research topics related to this subject were covered by giving very limited information under only one title. Neither the moral nor the financial supports of the Turkish public after the 6/7 September Incidents were the subject of a narrow historiography research.
