Abstract (EN)

Abdulhak Hamid Tarhan wrote more than twenty works in the genre of theater during the period of Tanzimat and Mesrutiyet in Turkish literature. During this period, he experimented with the transformation of theater art within his own culture under the influence of European literature. Hâmid looking for different methods on language, technique and theme, the tetralogy of his plays called Kanbur containing Ilhan, Turhan, Tayflar Gecidi plays is the most extraordinary work of Hamid. In the Hâmid studies conducted so far, incomplete and inaccurate inferences have been made since the author's plays were examined without considering the structural features of the theater art. In this study, starting with Kanbur tetralogy, a new method of reading Hamid's work which is a tragedy practice has been tried to be determined on the basis of Hamid's quest in transition from traditional theater to modern theater. Together with this new method, Kanbur play has been examined on the basis of the compulsory elements of the tragedy and the issue providing the tragic problem in the play has been reinterpretered, based on ancient Greek philosophy. Keywords:Abdulhak Hamid, Kanbur, Tragedy, Ancient Greek Philosophy, Tragic Problem
