Abstract (EN)

Study design: A retrospective study evaluating patients who underwent posterior spinal fusion with the modified convex rod technique in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of the surgical technique we used and the sublaminar band implant we used in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis surgery in the early postoperative period and at a minimum of 2 years of follow-up. Method: Preoperative anteroposterior and lateral radiographs of 18 patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis and prospectively collected data in the early postoperative period and at a minimum of 2 years follow-up were analyzed retrospectively. Thirteen (72%) of the patients were female and five (28%) were male. Results: The measured main thoracic curvature, thoracic kyphosis, lumbar lordosis, apical vertebral translation values of the patients were evaluated. Coronal plane improvement was achieved in all patients in the early period and a minimum of 2 years of follow-up after the surgery. No patient developed thoracic hypokyphosis and no loss of lumbar lordosis occurred in any patient. Conclusion: In the treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, using a convex rod derotation maneuver and providing apical vertebral translation with sublaminar band implant at the apex of the curvature, the surgical method provided sufficient improvement in the early period and in a minimum of 2 years of follow-up. In this regard, longer-term results with larger patient groups are needed
