Abstract (EN)

Ali Suavi (1839-1878), one of the 19th century Ottoman scholars and intellectuals, was closely interested in the problems of the historical period and spent his life struggling for the resurrection and survival of the Ottoman Empire, using his journalism, writing, preaching, teaching at the madrasah. During his nine-year exile in Europe (1867-1876); He had the chance to get to know the western ideas, and he reinterpreted the political and social concepts and ideas that would benefit Muslims, like lost property, by taking Islam as a reference and brought them to our world of thought. In this respect, the story of Suavi is valuable in our political and sociological history, as well as in our fiqh history with his fatwas that open the door to ijtihad and his new ideas in the fiqh method. In addition, in terms of understanding the penetration of journalism into the country, he has a special place in our education experience with his attempts as principal at Galatasaray Mekteb-i Sultani (1877), as well as criticizing the madrasah syllabus and system and making proposals for its improvement. The subject of this thesis is Suavi's fiqh thought and his jurisprudence views, which are in contact with all his views in other fields. In the first part of this study, Suavi's life, historical period, relations with the New Ottomans and journalistic activities are discussed. In the second part, political and social issues in the field of fiqh, the general thought of fiqh and his views on various fiqh issues were examined. With this study, it is aimed to draw a holistic picture about the understanding of fiqh, which affects all of Suavi's thought.
