Socio-economic structure and pesticide usege of corn producers in Amik plain

Corn is one of the most cultivated grains that can adapt to every climate. We see that developed countries in the world are advanced in corn production. Corn production is at a very important point in Turkey. With the use of corn as a raw material in other sectors, it is trying to expand its production. Corn production of Hatay and Amik Plain covers a large area. In this study, socio-economic structures of corn producers in Amik Plain and issues related to drug use are discussed. In the research, 100 corn producers were randomly selected and face-to-face interviews were conducted. In addition, secondary data such as studies, theses, reports, TUIK statistical data and electronic resources were also used. The analyzes of the data were made with appropriate programs and the numerical variables were given as averages. It is important to work on increasing the social and economic structures of corn operators and production. Average corn production cost in the resourced enterprises is about 0.71 TL/Kg (0.12 $/kg). The average cost per decare is 1,057.36 TL/da (176.23 $/da). Therefore, the average profit per decare in an enterprise is about 912.50 TL, that is, 152.08 $. The average cost of pesticide and herbicide usage are 64.13 TL/da (10.69 $/da), and this amount can be reduced by 20-25% if conscious usage of pesticides and herbicide are provided.
