Abstract (EN)
This study analyses the fear of terrorism in the context of the cities of Ankara and Istanbul, which have started to attract more attention in the terrorism literature since the early 2000s. Fear of terrorism often prevents terrorist attacks today in terms of impact. A growing sense of insecurity in social life causes individuals to fear many actions, attacks and and then look at everything with suspicion. Getting worried about getting on public transport, getting on subways, getting suspicious of the items people are carrying-bags-are some of the examples that can be given about the situation. This state of fear and anxiety experienced by individuals leads to increasing progress and consequently to an increase in the feeling of insecurity and being threatened at any time in social life. At the same time, the feeling of insecurity created by the new social problems, especially after the 1970s, caused the feeling of distrust created by the state authority to be shaken. In this context, the feeling of distrust of the security policies of the state that terrorism wants to create by using terrorist acts increases in societies. One of the main targets of terrorist attacks evokes a culture of fear. In this context, the fear of terrorism is essentially the fear of the unknown. It is easy and outcome-focused for terrorist organizations to intimidate individuals because the fear of society will fundamentally undermine the established state and the order of society.
