ʿAṭāʾ b. Abī Rabāḥ's defective hadīth on the basis of Ibn Abî Hatim's `Ilal al-Hadīth

The first century Hijri is the time when the Companions and the followers lived together. The generation of the followers, who received hadiths from their teachers in various ways, tried to convey the narrations they obtained. For some, these efforts have a systematic nature, while for others, they are not. Thus, it is necessary to think about the first period in which the hadith narration took place. While doing this, especially the relations between the narrators and the ways of transmitting hadiths from each other need to be examined in detail. Because the words and actions attributed to Messenger of God, or the generation of the Companions can be exposed to various changes among the narrators who convey the information. For example, not transferring the hadith as it should be in terms of isnad or text would change the state of the hadith from its original source, which is called defective hadith. The defective named as errors in the hadiths have been tried to be determined by the Expert scholar critics. In this study, the defective hadith of 'Atâ' b. Abî Rabâh, who is among the important figures of the followers, will be examined. The reason for choosing the name in question is that very little study has been done on his hadith knowledge. In addition, these studies do not examine his defective hadith. It is aimed to contribute to the literature by dealing with his defective hadith. While doing this, first, 'Atâ's life will be discussed with its main lines, and then his degree in the science of hadith will be emphasized. Finally, the defective hadith of 'Atâ', which is the main subject of the thesis, will be examined in the context of Ibn Abî Hâtim's 'Ilal al-hadith. Instead of examining all the defective hadith in the work in question, the main reasons for defective will be determined and a representative example will be selected from each. In this way, it will be brought to the fore on what grounds 'Atâ's defective hadiths were criticized in Ibn Abî Hâtim's 'Ilal al-hadith.
