Abstract (EN)

The Reliability and Validity Study Of The Partner Breastfeeding Influence Scale Aim: This study is methodologically planned for evaluation of validity and reliability of the Turkish revision of TPBIS (The Partner Breastfeeding Influence Scale) originally developed by Rempel & Rempel (2011). Methods: Study universe built up from fathers who visited Newborn Outpatient Clinic of Ege University Children Hospital between July 2018 and December 2018; and sample group is created by 301 fathers which volunterely joined the study, completed the survey and met the inclusion criterias. Person İdentification Form and TPIBS is used for data collection. In evaluation of the data frequency/percentage, correlation, Cronbach Alpha, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis were used. Findings: For language validity, scale translated from English to Turkish and later retranslated to English. After language validation, scale presented to 10 academic members experted on different medical fields for content validation. Expert opinions were evaluated with Davis technique. According to expert opinions, content validity index of all items calculated as "0.99". There is a statistical consensus between experts according to the result of Kendall W coefficiant (Kendall's W value 0.163; p<0.05). The Cronbach Alpha correlation coefficient was found to be .95 for the whole scale, .82, .83, .83, .83 and .75 for the subscales. The correlation coefficient of the score of each item is ranged between .240 and .721 (p < .001). The results of the exploratory factor analysis explained 59.09% of the total variance and the factor load values of the items of scale are between .40 and .70. The factor load values of the scale according to the confirmatory factor analysis are between .28 and .82. GFI, NFI, NNFI, CFI are > .90 and RMSA is < .080 were determined. Factor analysis results of the construct validity of the scale showed that the data confirms that the data are consistent with the model. It also confirms five factorial construction and that the items and subscales are related to the scale. It is shown that each subscales identifies its own factor adequately. Conclusion: The analyses and evaluations show that TPBIS is a valid and relibale scale for Turkish population. According to these results The Partner Breastfeeding Influence Scale can be used successfully in the researches to be conducted in Turkey.
