Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted with women aged 20-45 with a BMI of 30-35 who applied to a Nutrition and Counseling Center in Istanbul. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of calcium consumption and dietary habits on obesity by anthropometric measurements. A questionnaire including demographic information, health status, and nutritional habits was applied to the women included in the study. In addition, food consumption records of the participants for 3 days were taken retrospectively and their food consumption frequency and anthropometric measurements were evaluated. According to the results, the women included in that study were between the ages of 21-42, and most of them were between the ages of 25-31-35, and 38% were housewives. When the food consumption records are examined; it was found that women with high calcium and potassium intakes had a higher rate of disease diagnosed by a doctor. A significant relationship was determined between, alcohol use of women and anthropometric measurements İt was observed that the hip circumference was larger in those who consumed alcohol (P=0.014). A statistically significant difference was observed between smoking and phosphorus consumption (P=0.023). A statistically significant correlation was found between the number of daily meals of the participants and their anthropometric measurements. It was determined that as the number of meals increased, the fat ratio increased (P=0.05) and the muscle ratio (P=0.02) and waist circumference (P=0.028) decreased. A significant relationship was found between hip circumference and energy (P=0.006), carbohydrate (P=0.008) and fat (P=0.018) consumption of women .In the relationship of calcium and other micronutrients with anthropometric measurements; relationship could not be found between calcium and anthropometric measurements (P >0.05). There was seen a significantrelationship between vitamin A and weight levels (P=0.047). The average daily calcium consumption of the participants was found to be 774.59 mg, which was below the daily requirement. A significant correlation was found between yogurt(P=0.023), rice-pasta (P=0.041) , tea (P=0.01) and coffee (P=0.014) consumption and BMI . The data belonging to the food consumption records used in the study were recorded through the BEBİS program, and the energy and nutrient values were calculated. The evaluations, records and statistical analyzes were made with SPSS in Windows 18.0 environment and T-test, Chi-square test, Mann-Whitney U test were applied. As a result of the study, since the effect of calcium consumption in obese women on anthropometry and thus obesity could not be determined, contrary to the recent literature, it is necessary to conduct studies in a larger and different socio-cultural population and using advanced techniques.
