Political activities of Diyarbakır assemblies in the First Assembly

Diyarbakır has hosted many civilizations throughout its history and has come under the sovereignty of many states. The Ottoman State dominated Diyarbakır and its surroundings in 1514 and this situation continued until the collapse of the state. The Ottoman State was defeated by the First World War and was forced to accept the conditions imposed by the western powers. The Grand National Assembly was opened in Anatolia during the National Struggle movement, which started under the leadership of Mustafa Kemâl Pasha and achieved success. The parliament opened in Ankara held elections in a short time based on the principle of national will. In the elections held for the Assembly, seven deputies representing the will of the people were elected from Diyarbakır, which is located in the provinces as in many cities of Anatolia. After seven deputies were elected in the elections held in Diyarbakır, they participated in the parliamentary work. The deputies were mostly chosen from notables and aristocratic families. In addition, being highly educated is another striking factor. The attorneys have served in council duties such as justice, education and finance. Diyarbakır deputies have been sensitive to all kinds of incidents in and around Diyarbakır and carried this to the parliament.They took part in the political and armed struggle both directly and indirectly, taking into account the situation of the state in Diyarbakır and its environs. During the National Struggle, they collected information about the conditions of the people by visiting the region and its surroundings where they were elected and reported it to the parliament. When conditions are required, they undertake other administrative duties such as governorship and other administrative duties.
