Abstract (EN)
Our study aimed to research the importance of vitamins in the treatment of COVID-19 by comparing retrospectively serum vitamin D, vitamin B12 and folate values of the patients who have diagnosed as COVID-19 with the health control group in Karaman Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi. This study was conducted by a group of 60 people who were divided into two groups: 30 randomly selected people with a diagnosis of COVID-19 who came to Karaman Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi between 2020 and 2021 during the COVID-19 epidemic, and a control group consisting of 30 randomly selected healthy people who came to the hospital for routine controls. The Biochemistry Laboratory's analysis of the vitamin levels was used to carry out the experiment. All of the participants were aged between 18 and 65. Serum vitamin D, vitamin B12, and folate levels of the two groups were compared retrospectively. The patient's laboratory values, clinical characteristics, and demographic data such as age and gender were obtained from the hospital's electronic database. Data were analyzed with IBM SPSS V23. ROC analysis was used to determine the predictive values of laboratory parameters. Conformity to the normal distribution was evaluated using the Shapiro-Wilk test. Yates correction was used to compare gender by groups. The Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare the data that were not normally distributed according to the paired groups. Analysis results mean ± s for quantitative data. Categorical variables such as deviation and median (minimum – maximum) were presented as frequency percentages. Significance level was taken as p<0.050. Since the zinc kit in Karaman Eğitim Araştırma Hastanesi did not work, the data weren't received and did not include the study. The general gender distribution of our study group consists of 55% men and 45% women. While the mean age of the Covid-19 group was 54,17 ± 8,27, the mean age of the control group was calculated as 42.37 ± 14.08. The results of our study determined the vitamin D median of the covid-19 group to be 11.12 (4.20-51.18) mg/ ml. folic acid median 9.89 (3.87 to 24.00) ng/ mL and vitamin B12 median was found to be 392.50 (141.00-2000.00) pg/ mL. Only vitamin D levels were significant in the difference between the groups (p=0.001). Only vitamin D levels were significant in the difference between the groups. A significant value for Folate and Vitamin B12 values could not be obtained (p>0.050). ROC analysis results of laboratory parameters were found to have an AUC value of 0.738 for Vitamin D, which was statistically significant (p=0.002). A significant ACU value for Folate and Vitamin B12 values could not be obtained (p>0.050). ROC analysis results of laboratory parameters were found to have an AUC value of 0.738 for Vitamin D, which was statistically significant (p=0.002). A significant ACU value for Folate and Vitamin B12 values could not be obtained (p>0.050). Serum vitamin D levels were determined well below the reference values in patients with covid-19. Vitamin parameters of patients infected with coronavirus should be evaluated. Keywords: Covid-19, Folic acid, Vitamin b12, Vitamin d,
