Abstract (EN)

SUMMARY MCH (Maternal and Child Health) is one of the most important subjects of Public Health. Although many important developments have been provided as a result of long year's efforts on MCH in our country, the expected levels couldn't have been reached yet. The importance of risk factors and risk approach on pregnant women are very well known subjets. The objectives of this study were to examine the frequency of some risk factors on pregnants and correlation of risk factors between the mother's sociodemographic characteristics and other factors and effects of risk factors on labour and infants. This research was a cross-sectional study which studied on 764 pregnants who delivered in Diyarbakır Maternity Hospital in one month. A questionnaire which covered the following topics were assigned to the all pregnants: Sociodemographic specialities, history of previous pregnancy, background characteristics, obstetric history. Moreover, their physical examinations, urine for protein and haematocrit measures were checked and the knowledges about labour and newborn baby were recorded by observing their labour. Data were evaluated statistically by using chisquare, correlation and t-test on mınıtab computer programme. The average age of women were 25.36±6.17, average number of total pregnancies were 3.72, average number of live births were 3.19. 54.58 percent of women were illiterate, 34.56 percent of women were husbant without job and 78.53 percent of women were without social insurance. Results of this study were ; adolescent pregnancy 14.66%, advanced maternal age (>35) 11.78%,, consanquineous marriages 43.98%, grand multiparity 32.33%, short birth interval (<2 years) 39.33%, unwilling pregnancy 56.13%, without prenatal care 42.67%, without immunization for tetanos 86.12%, pre-eclampsia 4.71%, anemia 39.92%. Moreover, the following results were confirmed ; ceserian section 9.69%, labour complications 4.97%, preterm birth (<37 weeks) 8.63%, stillbirth 7.70%, asphyxia 17.98%, LBW (Low birth weight) 3.60%. Finally, it was seen that prenatal care and family planning services were inefficient and the socioeconomic levels of women were too low, and this condition effected the utilization of present health services in negatively. Because of these three causes prevelance of risk factors on women were too high and this effected MCH negatively. Some suggestions were developed on the subject of lowering and management of high risk pregnancy. 62
