The relationship between sociotrophic-autonomic personality traits of married couples and the conflicts in their marriages

The main aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between the sociotrophic and autonomic personality traits of married couples and their conflicts in their marriages. Within the frame of its main objective, the study also tries to determine any possible associations between the anxieties of married couples for approval, divorce, pleasing others, personal achievement, freedom, enjoying loneliness and the problems they have in their marriages.The study is a descriptive survey and conducted in 2009 with 327 married couples living in Seyhan,Çukurova, Sarıçam and Yüregir provinces of Adana. The data collection instruments were Sociotropy-Autonomy Scale -SAS , Marital Conflict Ouestionnaire-MCQ , and a questionnaire developed by the researcher.The results of the study reveals that there is a relatively low significant relationship between the sociotrophic and autonomic characteristics of married couples and their conflicts in their marriages. The analysis also suggests that the relationship between the frequency of having conflicts in marriages and the variables related to anxiety for approval, divorce, pleasing others which are included in sociotrophy subscale and the variables of personal achievement, freedom enjoying loneliness in the autonomy subscale have a similar low significancy.
