Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to determine teachers' troughts on professional development, which areas they need professional development and the frequency of participation in professional development studies. The sample of the survey prepared for this purpose is performed on physics, chemistry and biology teachers in secondary schools in Istanbul. The findings analyzed by Mann Whitney U and Kruskal H have been interpreted. As a result of evaluation of the findings, the teachers mostly stated that they are following the technological developments, scientific journals and communication instruments related to their departments and attending the scientific meetings, with their self evaluations and with the guidance of their group teachers. However the teachers stated that the studies issued by school, inservice training activities and their studies on seminars are not enough to supply their requirements for professional developments. The teachers also stated that the gifted students need professional development for their education and STEM programs. Although teachers have some negative thoughts about current professional development programs, they are quite open to professional development when their expectations are provided on the programs. Suggestion have been made to develop alternative solutions to the problems indicated on teachers' professional development. Keywords: Professional development, requirement for professional development, science teachers, ability of teachers.
