Abstract (EN)
There are studies that show which many factors such as personality traits, thoughts about themselves and environmental factors play a role in people's relationships with each other. It is thought that the level of self-esteem and the level of fear of negative evaluation have an effect on the relationships between individuals. The aim of this study is to examine the effects of individuals' self-esteem and fear of negative evaluation on the dimensions of interpersonal relationships. The availability of studies in the context of the specified variables are limited. The universe of the study was determined as the young adult population in the 20-40 age group living in Istanbul, Turkey, who participated in the study voluntarily. The sample of the study, on the other hand, consists of 398 people selected by convenience sampling method from the young adult population in Istanbul, with a 95% confidence interval calculated with a 5% margin of error. 62.3% (248 people) of the participants were women, 37.7% (150 people) were men. Questionnaire technique was used as a data collection tool in the research. These; personal information form, Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and Scale of Dimensions of Interpersonal Relationships were determined. Data analysis was performed using the IBM SPSS 24 data collection program. Regression analysis was performed to evaluate whether the independent variables significantly predicted interpersonal relationship dimensions. Mann Whitney U test for two-category variables to compare the relationship between the scales used in the study and sociodemographic variables; Kruskal Wallis H test was used to compare more than two groups and Spearman's Rho Correlation Analysis was used to evaluate the scales among themselves. The chi-square test was used to investigate whether two or more variables were independent of each other. It has been observed that the Dimensions of Approval Dependence, Emotional Awareness and Trust in Others, which are the dimensions of Interpersonal Relationships, differ significantly according to the dimensions of Self-Esteem. There is no significant difference between the empathy sub-dimension and the self-esteem dimension. The relationships between the dimensions of Fear of Negative Evaluation and Interpersonal Relationship sub-Dimensions, , 'Trust in Others' and 'Emotional Awareness' were examined. Fear of Negative Evaluation was found to have a significant relationship with other sub-dimensions except Empathy.
