Abstract (EN)
This research was conducted as a randomized controlled intervention study to determine the effect of stress management training on nursing students' perceived stress, coping styles, self-esteem, happiness, and general health. The research was carried out at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University in the 2021-2022 academic year. 20 students are assigned to the intervention group and 20 students are assigned to the control group. The intervention group received eight weeks of training in 60-90-minute sessions once a week. Data is collected by Sociodemographic Data Form, Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), Ways of Coping Questionnaire (WOC), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), Oxford Happiness Scale-Short Form (OHQ-SF), General Health Questionnaire-12 (GHQ-12) and Semi-Structured Questionnaire. Data collection tools are used four times; pre-training, post-training and follow-up (1st and 3rd months post-training) stages. In comparisons between groups; post-training PSS general, inadequate self-efficacy perception and stress/discomfort perception sub-dimensions, and stress/discomfort perception sub-dimension scores at the 1st follow-up (post-training 1 month); The scores of the helpless approach, submissive approach, and emotional (passive) sub-dimension of SBTS were at the 1st follow-up (post-training 1 month); social support seeking subscale scores at 2nd follow-up (post-training 3rd month); While there was a significant difference in optimistic approach and problem oriented (active) sub-dimension scores, OHQ-SF and GHQ-12 scores, there was no significant difference in terms of scale general and sub-dimension scores at other times (p>0.05). In comparisons within the groups, there were no significant differences in terms of PSS, WOC and RSES general scores in both the intervention and control groups (p>0,05) when compared with pre-training, post training and follow-up stages. However, it was found that there was a significant difference (p<0.05) in the intervention group in terms of OHQ-SF and GHQ-12 scores, at pre-training, post-training and follow-up stages. According to the semi-structured questions after the training, 40% of the students stated that the training was effective and instructive, 43.8% used breathing exercises and 38.5% used what they learned in their academic and clinical lives. In conclusion, it was determined that stress management training significantly decreased the PSS and GHQ-12 scores, increased the WOC and OHQ-SF scores significantly, and had no effect on the RSES scores.
