The study of relationship between the creative thinking tendency, the perception for solving problem and academic success of the 8th grade pupils in secondary school

In this study it is aimed to investigate the relationships between the creative thinking tendency, the perception for solving problem and academic success of the 8th grade pupils in secondary school. The population comprises pupils in public secondary schools in Siirt city center. The participants are 387 secondary school pupils, 190 female and 197 male, studying at secondary schools in Siirt city center in 2016-2017 Educational Year. In this study the sample was chosen randomly. In this study, quantitative research method was used and it is a descriptive study in relationally scanning model. In order to obtain the data, Whetton and Cameron's "How creative are you?", Heppner's "Problem Solving Inventory" and "TEOG points" were used. The data of the study were analyzed with SPSS 22.0 Program. Independent Sample T Test, Simple Linear Regression Analysis and Pearson Correlation Analysis were used to analyze the data. According to findings, 49.1% of the participants are female students and 50.9% of the participants are male students. The avarage TEOG point of the participants is 370,21±56,387. It was figured out fort he participants that the point of trust for problem solving ability, approach-avoidance point and problem solving total point are low; individual control point is medium-level. The participants are medium-level creative. It has been determined that there is a negative relationship and a meaningful relationship between students' creative thinking tendencies and problem solving perceptions. It has been determined that there is a positive relationship and a meaningful relationship between students' creative thinking tendencies and academic achievement. As the level of creativity increases, academic achievement also increases. As the level of creativity decreases, academic achievement also decreases. It has been determined that there is a negative relationship between the creative thinking tendencies of students and their academic achievement, but this relationship is not significant. As a result of these investigations, proposals have been developed for implementation and future research. Keywords: Education, creative thinking, problem solving, academic success
