Examination of noise pollution awareness education practices in primary school fourth graders: İzmir sample

Noise pollution can be defined as anarchic, high-intensity, intermingling and negative sounds that have physiological and psychological effects on people. The aim of this study was to determine the awareness and sensitivity levels of 4th grade students and teachers about noise pollution and to evaluate the effects of noise awareness education practices on students. Appropriate sampling method was used in the study. 26 classroom teachers and 205 fourth grade students participated in the study. Descriptive and developmental research methods were used in the study. While descriptive research reveals the present situation and the event in various dimensions, it investigates the questions of what the developmental research method was and what happened. Data collection tools were decibelmeter, teacher and student questionnaire, teacher interview form and researcher observation. n the first stage of the study, noise measurements were made in the school and compared with 39dB-49dB values specified in the regulation. In the second step of the study, a survey was conducted with 26 teachers. Interviews were conducted with six teachers. According to the noise measurements and survey findings, the noise level of the school was quite high. The highest noise was observed in the hallway and the school yard during the break time. Noise in the school is at a level that can create physical and psychological effects on individuals. For example, a teacher felt discomfort "In the last years I can no longer tolerate noise and I am uncomfortable with this situation. I get stressed and frustrated.. In the third step of the study, noise education activities were applied with the students. A questionnaire was conducted with 205 students before the activities. Then, the first questionnaire was applied to 156 students who participated in the activities and the data of the first questionnaire and the last questionnaire were compared. With the trainings, the students realized that noise was a problem. One of the teachers stated that durum There was a change in my students' perspective on the subject after the noise training activities. They are more careful. " In other interviews with the teachers, it was stated that the trainings were effective but they should be repeated and turned into behavior. It is stated that the implementation of noise education throughout the year will support more efficient results. Teachers, administrators and parents should be included in the noise pollution awareness trainings. In addition, under the leadership of the Ministry of National Education, initiatives should be taken to ensure sound insulation in all schools.
