Quality of sleep in patients with and without shoulder pain after stroke; Effect on daily life activity and quality of life

Stroke causes significant neurological defects. In addition; stroke causes significant morbidity in patients due to complications. One of the common complications of stroke patients is shoulder pain. The sleep quality of stroke patients with and without shoulder pain was evaluated and the effect of sleep quality on daily living activity and life quality of these patients was investigated. In our study; A total of 32 stroke patients with and without shoulder pain were included in the last 18 months. All stroke patients were divided into two groups with and without shoulder pain. Patients included in the study; The ShoulderQ Questionnaire for the assessment of the presence and severity of shoulder pain, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index for sleep quality assessment, the KATZ Daily Living Activities Scale for assessment of daily life activity, The Stroke Specific Quality of Life Scale for quality of life assessment, the assessment of hand and wrist problems, and upper extremity Michigan Hand Reports Questionnaire Turkish Version was used for evaluation of motor functions. As a result; Sleep quality was found to be weak in stroke patients with shoulder pain. Also; It was concluded that sleep quality significantly affects the independence in daily living activities and life quality of stroke patients.
