Abstract (EN)
In this study, bioactive components were extracted from Jania rubens seaweed using ethanol and acetone. The phenolic compounds and volatile compounds of J. rubens were investigated by HPLC and GCMS, respectively. The antimicrobial activities of the extracts on Acinobacter baumannii (ATCC 02026), Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25925), Enterococcus faecalis (ATCC 29212) bacterial strains and Candida tropicalis (ATCC 750) and C. parapsilosis yeasts were investigated. The antiamylase activities of the extracts were compared with acarbose (amylase inhibitor) in vitro. PVP/PVA hydrogels were prepared by mixing the extracts in certain proportions and the physicochemical properties of the gel, which antimicrobial effect was determined, were determined using FTIR and TGA-DTA. J. rubens extracts had no inhibition against A. baumannii, E. coli, S. aureus, E. faecalis and C. parapsilosis. J. rubens ethanol and acetone extractions (EE, AE) inhibited C. tropicalis with inhibition zones of 10,14 mm and 12,37 mm, respectively. The anti-amylase activity of J. rubens EE and AE was 96% and 79%, respectively, at 100 mg/mL concentration. In C. tropicalis exposed to J. rubens/PVA/PVP hydrogel, logarithmic reduction and percent reduction were observed in the first 5 minutes of incubation as 1,5 CFU/mL and 97,5%, respectively. This bioactive hydrogel was developed as a functional gel containing phenolic extracts, degradable at high temperatures, absorbs water, and has anti-candidal and anti-amylase activity.
