Effect of occupation therapy of anxiety and depression in the process of chemotherapy in gyneoncologic patients

Abstract (EN)

The research was conducted as descriptive for examination of the connection of the occupational therapy and effect of anxiety and depression observed in gyneoncologic patients who applied to Gynecology Oncology Chemotherapy Unit in Başkent University Hospital. Sampling of the study estimated by the sampling formula with known universe (n=200). The collection of data, survey form, hospital depression and anxiety scale, daily living activities scale was applied. In order to evaluate the datas, Mann Whitney U Test and Kruskal Wallis H Test, Chi-square, One-way were used. p<0.005 was used as a significance level. The average age of study participants was found to be 56.8 ± 10.5. In the research, it was determined that chemotherapy patients were frequently watching tv series and film (%51.3), dreaming (%32.7), listening music (%26.6), visiting friends and relatives (%19.6), growing flower (%14) and walking, doing exercising (%14). Also want to study, it was determined that the occupational therapy center of %77 of patients. According to analysis, %53 of patients with anxiety and %67 of patients with depressions was detected. During chemotherapy process, while occupation rate increase, anxiety and depression level decrease and daily living activities increase (p<0.05). As a result of study it has shown that occupational situation affects both psychology and levels of independence of cancer patients positively. In this regard, the participation of the gynecological cancer patients to occupational therapy by evaluating the activity of individual performance and is recommended for further studies on the subject.
