Abstract (EN)

This master's thesis examines the poetry collection belonging to Vahdî Efendi in Harun Korkmaz's personal collection. Vahdî Efendi stood out primarily in the field of Arabic language and rhetoric and was not a well-known musician. The collection, compiled in the early 18th century (1123) and arranged in 1711, consists of 143 pages and contains 966 lyrics. Among them, 925 are in Turkish, 32 in Persian, and 9 in Arabic. What sets this collection apart from others is that it is the first poetry anthology whose compiler and date of arrangement are clearly stated in the colophon. Additionally, it contains a considerable number of hymns. The thesis is divided into three parts. The introduction provides information about the collections. The first part presents the research findings on Vahdî Efendi's life, his role as a judge, his calligraphy, and his scholarly aspects. The second part explores the form and content of the anthology, presenting lists of composers, poets, lyrics, meters, modes, Arabic and Persian poems, and the ways lyrics were composed. It also provides bibliographic abbreviations for the divans of mentioned poets. The third part presents the transcription and critically edited text. It also sheds light on the repertoire of the period by providing a list of all the lyrics in the collection. Ultimately, the study confirms the highly interconnected nature of literature and music, particularly in terms of poetry, lyrics, and composition, demonstrating that poetry nourishes music and vice versa. Keywords: Poetry, miscellany, 18th century, Vahdî Efendi.
