Socio-economic dimensions of urban transformation (Diyarbakir sample)

This thesis deals with the theorical sides of urban transformation related to its changes during historical process. In this thesis, by benefiting from mainstream theorical perspectives, it is intented to address the planned and ongoing urban transformation aplications for city of Diyarbakir in the context of social problems. Therefore city and urban transformation theories and consepts are summarized and it tried to clarify how the mentioned theories and applications are affected by social, cultural and economical changes and also by which innovations the urban transformation goes on its theorical context. So the urban transformation samples are given from the world and Turkey. Therefore Diyarbakir sample is tried to relate with the applications in different cities and countries. To explain by sociological principles, the selected sample Alipaşa Stage 1, the first applied process of Alipaşa-Lalebey Urban Transformation Project, is subjected to indepth observation to identify social problems engendered by urban transformation. The resultsobtained through theorical and methodological studies is that urban transformation has revealed some sociological processes and situations both in Turkey and the developed countries, there are acceptable similarities and compatibilities for city of Diyarbakir, as well.
