The relationship between perceived stress and anxiety levels in patients performed coronary angiography and affecting factors

This research; This study was conducted as a descriptive study to determine the anxiety levels of perceived stress and the factors affecting it in patients undergoing coronary angiography. Between August and October 2022, 190 patients who met the research criteria in a university hospital in Konya were included in the study. Data were collected using the Patient Diagnosis Form, the Perceived Stress Scale, and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the relationships between number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and variables in the analysis of the data, and the significance level was accepted as p<0.05. The mean age of the participants was 61.2±12.4%, 68.4% were male, 90.5% were married, 64.2% were primary school graduates, and 56.3% had angiography for the first time. It was found that having a family history of heart disease and receiving training on angiography affected the stress state, while education level, income status, and getting training for intervention from healthcare professionals affected anxiety. It is seen that there is a low and significant positive relationship between Perceived Stress level and trait anxiety levels (r=0.218 p=0.002), while there is no relationship between state anxiety levels (r=0.124 p=0.088). As a result, perceived stress and anxiety levels were found to be moderate in patients who underwent coronary angiography. Despite advanced technology, the elimination of process-related stress and anxiety is not satisfactory enough. For this reason, it is recommended that nurses plan interventions to reduce stress and anxiety in patients. Keywords: Anxiety, coronary angiography, nursing, stress.
