Abstract (EN)
This semi-experimental study was conducted to determine the effect of education on expectancy, pain and anxiety levels in patients with coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Sixty patients between the ages of 18-65 who were hospitalized at Ege University Health Research and Application Center, Department of Cardiovascular Surgery between June 2018 and October 2018 were included in the study. The patients were divided into two groups as control and experiment. In order to prevent patients from being affected from each other, the study was applied first to the control group and then to the experimental group without using randomization method. While clinical education was given to patients in the control group in the routine manner; training booklet was given to the patients in the experimental group. Mini Mental Test, Patient Information Form, Visual Analogue Pain Scale (VAS) and Spielberg State-Trait Anxiety Inventory were applied to the patients in the experimental and control groups. After the operation, the Spielberg State Anxiety Inventory and VAS pain scale were applied for the second time and the Spielberg State Anxiety Scale, Barnason Effectiveness Questionnaire Scale, VAS pain scale and training evaluation form were applied for the third time. The data obtained from the research analysed with the SPSS for Windows 25.0. As a result of the research; In the experimental group, the mean scores of the Barnason Synopsis scale were found to be 49.26 ± 5.22, while the mean score of the patients in the control group was 36.00 ± 5.67 ; %96.7 of the patients who were trained with the training booklet were satisfied with the training, whereas %70.0 of the patients who received routine clinical training were not satisfied with the training that they received; the mean score of Spielberg State Anxiety Scale on the day of discharge was 35.36 ± 10.23 and 39.93 ± 8.91 for the control group; The mean VAS pain score on the day of discharge was 1.13 ± 1.04, the control group was 2.63 ± 1.47, and the difference was statistically significant (t = 1.841; p <0.05). As a result, it was determined that CABG surgery patients who were trained with the training booklet have higher expectation level of efficacy and lower pain and anxiety levels were than the patients who were given routine clinical training during the discharge period. According to results; it was recommended that using of the training booklet in the training of CABG surgery patients, besides the routine clinical training, and different researches should be carried out including different training methods that may increase self-efficacy in patients.
