Comparison of cervical manipulation and hot-pack, tens, ultrasound treatment on pain intensity, quality of life, and joint movement in patients with chronic mechanical neck pain

The aim of this study is to examine the effectiveness of physical therapy applications and cervical manipulation in patients with chronic mechanical neck pain. Forty patients with chronic neck pain were included in the study. In the study, the patients were divided into two groups as Physiotherapy and Physiotherapy+Cervical manipulation. Pain (VAS), neck disability (NDI), joint range of motion (ROM) and quality of life parameters were evaluated. It was found that sociodemographic data such as age, gender, educational status, health status and exercise status did not differ between the groups (p≥0.05). It was determined that the VAS, joint range of motion, neck disability index, quality of life vitality, social functionality, pain and general health perception sub-dimension scores differed before and after the treatment in the physical therapy group (p≤0.05). It was determined that VAS, BDI, ROM and quality of life sub-dimension levels differed before and after treatment in the physical therapy and chiropractic group (p≤0.05). In addition, it was found that the levels of VAS, BDI, ROM and quality of life sub-dimensions differed between the groups after treatment (p≤0.05). It has been concluded that physical therapy + chiropractic application is more effective than only physical therapy application in cases with chronic neck pain.
