A research to determine the reasons of high school students to prefer tourism education

The increasing number of tourists in the tourism industry every year has bro-ught tourism to an indispensable place in the economy of countries. Among the most important reasons for this indispensability are the foreign exchange inflow of tourism to the countries and its contribution to employment. The existence of many busines-ses operating in the tourism industry causes the competition in the tourism industry to take place under difficult conditions. In a competitive environment that takes place under such tough conditions, the most important element of achieving quality is the human factor. The aim of the thesis; Accommodation and travel services, food and beverage services students' reasons for choosing tourism education is to ensure the sustainability of quality in tourism education. In the questionnaire consisting of 30 questions, the questions were prepared according to the 5-point Likert type. The questions prepared to determine the stu-dents' views on tourism's social opportunities, income level, student abilities and working conditions and the demographic characteristics of the participants were in-terpreted. The prepared questionnaire was applied to a total of 500 students who re-ceived accommodation and travel services and food and beverage services at high school level in the provinces of Nevşehir, Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş in the 2021-2022 academic year. Quantitative research methods were used in the study. 71.2% of the participants are men; 28.8 of them were women. 48.8 of the participants do not have any tourism experience. It can be said that the Kovik-19 pandemic is effective in this situation. 65.2% of the participants want to continue their university education in the field of tourism.
