The investigation of high school foreign language teachers' views about alternative assessment and measurement techniques

The aim of this study is to examine high school foreign language teachers' views on the techniques of alternative assessment and measurement. This research was carried out in the screening model. The sample of the study consists of 349 high school foreign language teachers working in public and private institutions in the central districts of Diyarbakır Province (Bağlar, Kayapınar, Sur, Yenişehir). The questionnaire used for 4th and 5th grade Science and Technology Teachers, developed by Okur (2008) as a data collection tool, was used for this study after having been adapted to foreign language teachers. Descriptive statistics, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and independent samples t-test were used to analyze the data. Furthermore, it was concluded that teachers' views about using alternative assessment and measurement techniques are at the level of "Agree". In addition, when high school foreign language teachers' views about Techniques of Alternative Assessment and Measurement (TOAAM) were examined according to the graduated faculty and the in-service training variables, it was found that there was no significant difference between these variables. At the end of the research, suggestions were made concerning TOAAM.
