Occupational choice capability of students in vocational schools and factors affecting their occupational choice

In this research, it was aimed to define the level of occupational choice capability, to understand which factors affect the occupational choice, and to define the satisfaction of students from their occupation.The model of this research is descriptive scanning. The research targeted at occupational school students in Gebze, Darıca, Çayırova, Dilovası during 2007-2008 education year. Subjects were identified through simple random sampling. In this study, ?The Personal Information Form?, ?The Questionnaire about Factors Affecting Occupational Choice? and ?The Scale of Occupational Choice Capability? were used as data collection tools. The Questionnaire and the Scale were developed by researcher. The collected data were analyzed through techniques such as percentage, frequency, mean, standard deviation, t-test, Kuruskal Wallis H, one-way ANOVA test to analyze the source of the variance.41% of students accepted the effect of family?s socio-economic state on the choice of occupation. 59% of students accepted the effect of family?s expectation. 47% of students accepted the effects of mate on their choice of occupation. Approximately 80% of students are pleased with their occupation . The students who took part in the questionnaire rated their capabilities of occupational choice as third degree.Key Words: Occupation, Occupational Choice, Occupational Progress, Occupational Guidance
