Abstract (EN)
Migraine is a primary episodic headache disorder accompanied by neurological, gastrointestinal and autonomic changes. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) increase blood brain barrier permeability and cause pain sensitivity. MMP-2 was found to be elevated in patients with migraine and MMP-3 was reported in another study. Decorin (DCN) is a proteoglycan which is the extracellular matrix element and is broken down by MMPs (2,3,7). The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between DCN with migraine disease and to determine its association with MMP-2 and MMP-3, which are related to disease pathogenesis. Dicle University Medical Faculty Hospital, Neurology Outpatient Clinic; according to the The International Classification of Headache Disorders 3rd edition (beta version), 50 voluntary patients with migraine were diagnosed and 40 volunteers were included. ESR, CRP, hemogram parameters and serum MMP-2, MMP-3 and Dekorin levels were analyzed in the blood samples taken in the morning from the individuals whose demographic data were recorded. Serum levels of MMP-2, MMP-3, and DCN were measured by ELISA method. The data were analyzed statistically. No significant difference was found between the patient and the control group in terms of demographic data. Serum MMP-3 values of the patient group (33.8 ng / ml ± 40.8) were significantly lower than the serum MMP-3 values of the control group (50.4 ng / ml ± 36.4) (p: 0.032). There was no significant difference between serum MMP-2 levels of the patient group (9.5 ng / ml ± 8.9) and serum MMP-2 levels of the control group (11.5 ng / ml ± 7.5) (p: 0.32). Serum decorin levels of the patient group (18.7 ng / ml ± 18.7) were lower than the control group's serum decorin levels (26.0 ng / ml ± 17.1). However, this low was not found statistically significant (p: 0.096). Significant positive correlations were found between the parameters of MMP-2, MMP-3 and Dekorin. As a result, only low MMP-3 levels were found in migraine patients whose blood was collected during the attack period. In order to understand the role of Dekorin, which is a molecule that is enzymatically degraded by matrix metalloproteinases, in migraine pathogenesis, more extensive studies should be conducted at the molecular level during the with attacks and without attacks in the wider patient group. Key words: Migraine, Decorin ( DCN), Matrix Metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2), Matrix Metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3)
