The criticism to the people of the book in the commentary of Muhammad Ali es-Sâbûnî's Kabesun min Nuri'l-Qur'ani'l-Kerim

Muḥammad 'Alī al-Sābūnī distinguished himself in religious sciences and is one of the rare scholars of the last period. He has gained a respectable position among the scholars of our age with his works written throughout his life. Sābūnī's work named Qabesun min Nūr al-Qur'ān al-Karīm is mostly a work that shows his skill of dirāyah. Commentators who try to understand and interpret the Qur'ān should try to examine it with the awareness that it is a divine book in accordance with the purpose it was sent to. This is the direction that Muḥammad 'Alī al-Sābūnī took while interpreting the Qur'ān. His emphasis on the subtleties of the verses and his constant attention to the literary aspect and uniqueness of the divine address are signs of this. In this work of Sābūnī, it is understood that the Jews and Christians, who are Ahl al-Kitāb, are not the same. It has been stated that Jews are more violent towards believers than Christians. Both the negative attitudes of Ahl al-Kitāb towards the previous prophets were revealed, and their conspiracies and plans against The Prophet Muḥammad were criticized, and these beliefs and attitudes were rejected, and they were invited to a common word, namely, the oneness (Tawḥīd). In this study, the attitudes of Jews and Christians, who are Ahl al-Kitāb, towards their prophets were handled in terms of both belief and actual aspects, and the criticisms of Muḥammad 'Alī al-Sābūnī on this issue were included based on the relevant verses of the Qur'ān.
