Abstract (EN)

This thesis aims to show that Murathan Mungan's historical fictional works can be read as alternative narratives of history. Murathan Mungan uses a lot of historical material in his poems and stories. The reason for this can be understood by looking at his non-fiction texts. Mungan creates an anti-historical discourse, especially in his essays. He often states that history is insufficient to reflect the truths of the past. Because the past has lived and ended without ever going back. Any word that is said about what happened in the past can only be an interpretation of the person who says it. Besides, Murathan Mungan questions the concept of history in terms of its relation to objectivity. According to him, the identity of the power and the historian as an individual, which has the greatest power in transferring the past, is directly effective in not transferring the past in a complete way. Mungan uses literature as an alternative history tool to address all these shortcomings in history. Updates history with literature. His works on history can be opened to a possible and qualified reading from the perspective of the concept of updating.
