Examination of point of views on Ottoman history in Necip Fazıl Kısakürek's works

Throughout his life Necip Fazıl, who has a significant place in Turkish Literature with his poet identity, has produced many works not only on literary subjects but also in the fields of history, politics, religion and Sufizm. Necip Fazıl's studies, in which he deals with the historical affairs during the Ottoman and Republican periods, have been read with interest by a large segment of society in our country. While these works led to zealous debates, they occasionally caused Necip Fazıl to stand trial due to the opinions in them. Necip Fazıl wrote four works that directly concern Ottoman History. These books are "Ulu Hakan İkinci Abdülhamid Han", "Vatan Dostu Sultan Vahidüddin", "Yeniçeri" and lastly "Moskof". Apart from these works, his articles and conference notes also comprise his contentions on social, political and historical issues also include his views on Ottoman History. Till this day, no study has been conducted that solely deals with Necip Fazıl's thoughts on Ottoman History. The literature has mainly focused on his views on the Republic. His thoughts on the Ottoman era have not been adequately examined. In this study that based on historical information in his works, Necip Fazıl's thoughts on significant personalities, institutions and events in the Ottoman history were examined and his references were revealed. In addition, his opinions were evaluated by using crucial resources. As a result of our study, it has been seen that one of the most important factors shaping Necip Fazıl's view of historical issues is his identity of a litigant. From this point of view, his religious and moral evaluations came to the fore. While writing his works, Necip Fazıl did not show any academic sensitivity and did not use footnotes and bibliography. However, this should not mean that he did not benefit from any resources during the writing process. In some of his works, he sometimes stated the names of the sources in the text and showed the parts he quoted in quotation marks. It has been seen that these sources are generally the works of Ottoman and historians of his time as well as memoirs. Necip Fazıl also talked about the events told to him, what he heard, and what he read in newspapers and magazines in his works. In terms of both content and results this study will fill the gap on this subject in the literature.
