Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, the performances of three different gasoline-powered chainsaw models was comparatively evaluated in terms of working time and work efficiency during thinning and clear-cutting operations carried out in the Serik-Ören and Kaş-Karadağ Forest Planning Unit, located in Antalya Regional Directorate of Forestry. The chainsaw models tested in the research were Stihl MS 361, Husqvarna 268, and Husqvarna 365 Special. Applications were conducted by the same operator under similar stand structures, terrain characteristics, and environmental conditions. A total of 90 Turkish pine trees (Pinus brutia Ten.), with 30 individuals assigned per model, were processed through felling, delimbing, and bucking operations. Work-time data were analyzed with indirect observation technique (video-supported) and time study methods. Total average cycle times and work productivity for chainsaw models were as follows, respectively; the Stihl MS 361 has 5.4 min/tree (9.51 m3/h), the Husqvarna 268 has 5.2 min/tree (9.58 m3/h) and the Husqvarna 365 Special has 5.5 min/tree (9.51 m3/h). The Stihl MS 361 has the highest power-to-weight ratio, but for trees of the same diameter (d1.30), the Husqvarna 365 has the shortest cutting time, the Stihl MS 361 has the shortest logging time, the Husqvarna 268 has the shortest limbing time and also the shortest total operating time. It has been observed that Husqvarna 268 can perform better in individuals with a tree diameter (d1.30) below 35 cm, and Stihl MS 361 model can perform better in individuals above 35 cm diameter. In the distribution of the harvest process based on work steps; it has been determined that the longest time is spent in the branch removal operations for all saws, waiting due to flow also reduces work efficiency and the efficient working times of chainsaws remain below 30%.
