Students' perception to institutional image and theirsense of belonginess levels (Istanbul, Eyüp County sample)

The purpose of this research is to evaluate the relationship between the secondary school students' perceptions to their schools' institutional image and their sense of belonging. Field research is conducted to reach the aim of this study together with the literature search. Data is collected by two different methods. These are "Institutional Image Scale" and "Sense of belonging to Institute Scale". The research study area is Eyup, Istanbul. Questionaire is accomplished with totally 428 middle-school students, who are in 7th and 8th grade. Data analysis is performed by SPSS with 21 statistical programs on it. Pearson moment multiplication and T-Test are applied to data and acceptance levels are .05 and .01. To see the whole picture, arithmetic mean and standard deviation values are used for the assessment. When the mean points of subcategories of institutional image scale (academic environment, physical and social environment, public perception) compared, the highest point is the academic environment point, Likert scale of it seems as "rare/sometimes" and medium. Physical and social environment category's Likert scale result is also 'rare/sometimes' and "medium". According to this, students' perception to their schools in general and in all subcategories resulted as middle level. According to the analysis result of the 7th and 8th grade students 'sense of belonging to their schools', 'belonging to his/her school', 'ignorance' feelings are 'true' and 'high' with respect to Likert scale. The study revealed that in general and in all subcategories, 'the sense of belonging' feeling are high for the students.
