Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to examine the relationship between the self-regulation skills of preschool children and their mothers' attitudes towards parenting. The study group of the research consists of 392 children aged four-six years who study in pre-school education institutions affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in the province of Hatay in the 2020-2021 academic year, and 392 parents of these children, a total of 784 people As data collection tools in the research; The personal information form prepared by the researcher, "Self-Regulation Skills Scale for 4-6 Years-Old Children (Mother Form)" and "Attitude Scale Towards Parenting (Mother Form)" were used. In the analysis of data; In order to examine the normality values of the data, the kurtosis-skewness values were checked. According to this; It was determined that the data of the Self-Regulation Skills Scale for 4-6 Years-Old Children and the Attitudes Towards Parenting Scale showed a normal distribution. T-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to examine children's self-regulation skills according to demographic variables (gender, age, birth order, having their own room, parental age and parental education level). In addition, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to analyze mothers' attitudes towards parenting according to some variables (age, education level, number of children). Finally, Pearson correlation analysis was conducted to examine the relationship between the self-regulation skills of 4-6 year old children and their mothers' attitudes towards parenting. According to the results of the research; children's self-regulation skills, gender, age of parents, education level of parents, having a room of their own show a significant difference according to the variables. In addition, mothers' attitudes towards parenting differ according to the variables of age and education level. According to another result obtained from the research; There is a moderately positive and significant relationship between children's self-regulation skills and mothers' attitudes towards parenting. According to this result obtained from the research; It has been interpreted that as mothers' positive attitudes towards parenting increase, their children's self-regulation skill levels increase. Determining the relationship between children's self-regulation skills and their attitudes towards maternal parenting is considered important in terms of raising awareness and it is thought that the research will benefit other studies in the related field.
