Abstract (EN)

In the selection of the thesis titled "The Effects of Innovative Materials and Techniques on Knitted Textile Surfaces on Clothing Design", knitted textiles as a sub-branch of textile until today; It has been the reason for secondary preference after weaving from past to present, with the ease of technique and material it is generally applied to.It has been researched that this preference has changed with technology, art and design today and that knitting is now the leading choice of the textile field with its aesthetic structure and form.In today's technology and information age, there is no field and discipline that these two great concepts do not enter. In terms of art, technology and innovation, knitted textile surfaces were evaluated in the concept of "textile art", and knitted textiles were handled in the context of artistic expression by designers and artists. In this research, the stages of knitting from a two-dimensional surface to a three-dimensional surface, artistic creation with the possibilities provided by material and technique. The design elements and disciplines in the process and the stages of turning it into an industrial product were meticulously examined. Knitted textiles, which have been preserved from the past archaic ages with the name it took from its original technique, have also been a source of inspiration for many disciplines within the field of art. The material, which is a distinctive feature in art movements, is as important as material, technique and design in the textile surface creation stages. First of all, at this stage, the artistic and industrial layers of the garment were examined in the garment design process with the design, technique and material contribution of the knitted textile surfaces. Knitted garment design within the concepts of art and industry has been examined separately in the synthesis of innovation and technology, and it has been reached that the concept of garment design will contain more complex and artistic features together with innovative materials and techniques in the future. At the end of the study; By researching the form, structure and aesthetic foundations provided by knitted textile techniques, as well as innovative materials and techniques, first of all, a 4 piece collection was prepared from experimental studies of sculptural knitted clothing designs with different materials and techniques and using these designs, a biomaterial bovine gelatin. With these experimental designs, attention was drawn to the approach, methods and effects of the material, technique and design process in the transformation of knitting from a two-dimensional surface to a three-dimensional sculptural form. Keywords: Knitting, knitting art, innovative materials, innovative techniques, knitwear design
