Determination of cyber victimizations according to perceived family internet attitudes of secondary school students

The rapid development and change in the information age has made it necessary to use technology in many areas in order to adapt to the conditions of today's world. Today, the power and value gained by technology has been effective in the spread of technology and in the use of technology at younger ages. Adolescents show a strong tendency towards new technologies and because they have not yet reached psychological maturity, they become a risk group in terms of negative consequences of technology. Cyber bullying, which is a type of bullying that has been moved to the virtual environment with the development of technology, has brought cyber victimization. The attitude of parents, who are responsible for their children's health and safety as well as their online safety, towards their children's internet use also has an impact on the child's cyber victimization. "Cyber Victimization" and "Internet Family Attitude" questionnaires and "Demographic Information Form" were applied in this study, which was conducted to examine the relationship between secondary school students' family internet attitudes and cyber victimization. The research sample consists of the 5th, 6th, 7th grade students studying in the city center of Konya in the 2020-2021 academic year. and 8th grade students. 685 secondary school students participated in the research. Various analyzes were applied to the data obtained from the research with statistical programs. In the analysis of descriptive statistics, frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, mode, minimum and maximum values of the data were used. All analysis results were tested according to the level of significance at the p=.05 level. Chi-Square Test for Two Variables in the analysis of the data on the determination of family internet attitude and the differentiation of family internet attitude according to individual characteristics (gender, grade level, grade point average, mother's education level, father's education level, type of school; Mann-Whitney U Test in the analysis of data on the differentiation of cyber victimization levels by gender and school type; The Kruskal-Wallis H Test was used to analyze the data on grade level, grade point average, mother's education level, and father's education level. As a result of the analysis, it was seen that the most perceived family internet attitude was the democratic one and the perceived family internet attitude of the students who experienced the most victimization was the negligent attitude. According to secondary school students, family internet attitude differs according to gender, grade level, mother's education level, father's education level and school type; It was observed that there was no difference according to the grade point average. In the analysis of the data on the level of cyber victimization of the students, it was found that the cyber victimization of the students was low, and the cyber victimization differed according to the class level, mother's education level, and father's education level; It was seen that there was no difference according to gender, grade point average and school type. In the analyzes regarding the differentiation of the cyber victimization levels of secondary school students according to the family internet attitude, it was seen that the family internet attitude had different effects on the cyber victimization level.
