Investigation of secondary school teachers' adherence level to ethical principles in educational assessment

Investigation of Secondary School Teachers' Adherence Level to Ethical Principles in Educational Assessment The aim of this research was to investigate the secondary school teachers' adherence level to the ethical principles in educational assessment in terms of various variables. The descriptive survey research design was used in this research. The sample of the study consisted of 601 teachers who were selected from the secondary schools in the central districts of Diyarbakır (Bağlar, Kayapınar, Sur, Yenişehir) by simple random sampling. In the data analysis process, the accuracy of the data set was checked with descriptive statistics and it was observed that three individuals were extreme values. Thus, the data set was arranged as 598 and minimum, maximum, arithmetic mean and standard deviation values of the total scores of the individuals included in the data set were obtained and descriptive analyzes were conducted. After descriptive analysis, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and independent samples t-test were used to respond to sub-problems in order to compare the mean scores of the groups. In order to collect the data, Adherence to Ethical Principles in Educational Assessment Scale (AEPEAS) which was developed by Alkharusi (2016) and adapted into Turkish by İlhan, Güler and Kinay (2017) was used. As a result of the study, it was concluded that the teachers adhere to the ethical principles in educational assessments in "full adherence" level. In addition, statistically significant differences were found in levels of adherence to the ethical principles in educational assessment among teachers with respect to teaching subject area. On the other hand, no significant differences was found in levels of adherence to the ethical principles in educational assessment among teachers with respect to gender, teaching experience, educational attainment, number of hours of lessons per week and in-service training in measurement and assessment.
