Abstract (EN)
The issue of the origin of the Qur'an is one of the most important discussion topics in orientalist Qur'anic studies. In this respect, many claims of origin have been made about the Qur'an. The claim of Jewish origin is one of them. In this thesis, based on the example of the German-Jewish orientalist Abraham Geiger (1810-1874), who was the pioneer of the claim in the modern period, the claim that the Qur'an originated from Judaism is discussed. In the first part, in which the historical course of the claim that the Qur'an is originated from Judaism is examined, the background and historical development of Orientalism is presented firstly in order to draw a general framework, and then the traces of the pre-Geiger Jewish origin claims are tried to be determined from the period of when the Qur'an began to reveal. In the second part, firstly, Geiger's life, works and the situation of German-Jewish orientalists in the 19th century and their involvement in Islamic studies are outlined. Then, through his works, Geiger's claims about the Jewish origin of the Qur'an are presented and evaluated. Finally, the influence of Geiger on the studies after him is put forward and attention is drawn to the transformation in origin claims in the last century.
