Abstract (EN)
Health is the greatest treasure of living things. Therefore, human beings have been searching for solutions against disease for centruis to protect their health. Thans to the individual's experiences in treating disease, the cultural structure that the society calls "folk medicine" has emerged. The subject of we thesis refers to the folk medicine of Şanlıurfa (Central); the most common beliefs and traditional treatment practices in the surrounding. In the second part of the study, the definition of folk medicine, its history, its place in society, folk medicine in Turks, folk medicine in Anatolia and Şanlıurfa are tried to be determined. In addition, general concepts related to folk medicine are explained in this section. In the third section, which is examined under the title of treatment methods, the treatment methods that have the quality of magic, the treatment methods that have both magic and realistic quality and the treatment methods which have a totally realistic nature are discussed. In the fourth part of our thesis, folk medicine practices in Şanlıurfa are discussed in detail and the treatment methods applied for local diseases are determined. In the fifth section, after sacred healing centers in the region are mentioned, the list of the source persons interviewed, bibliography, photographs and annexes are included in the discussion and conclusion parts of the study.
