Examination of Sheikh Galib's "Husn u Ask" Mesnevi in terms of novel method

The mastership of some poets in the classical era Divan poetry has been measured with their success in the field of mesnevi. The reason for this is that the mesnevis are texts that require a special skill in terms of reading. Some literary researchers thought that the mesnevi texts of classical era literature were imitiated, fair tale-like works that have nothing to do with real life and they involuntarily ignored the poet's power to sing poetry. In this study, while applying the methods of criticism used in the analysis of today's narrative works to classical texts, without claiming to bring the work closer to modern literary genres and forms, the modern narrative and content elements carried by Hüsn ü Aşk are revealed. Contrary to what is said with a generalization for the mesnevis, Hüsn ü Aşk is a work is a work that contains many features of social life, unlike some mesnevis. The language used in most sections in the work is close to the daily speaking language of the period; local phrases, idioms and place names are included in the narration and the elements of extraordinary people, events and places are also included in the work, in a way that will create the fantastic fiction. In Hüsn ü Aşk, where many details about life are included in the story, people representing different different segments of the society are also included. Describing the difficult stages of Sufism in terms of being a perfect human being, Hüsn ü Aşk, apart from its allegorical structure, is similar to the modern novel in terms of the changes and transformations of the heroes in the event, the chronological structure of the plot, not neglecting the effects of the elements of place and space on human psychology and the skillful use of time elements designed in accordance with the event chronology. For this reason, Hüsn ü Aşk is a work that should be examined using the technical methods of the novel, which is one of the modern narrative genres.
