Abstract (EN)

It is seen that the Turks, who have taken their place among the ancient nations of the world, have not stayed in the settlement areas permanently for many different reasons since the early periods of history, and have continued their lives by spreading to different geographies from past to present because they are constantly on the move. It is known that this geographical distribution covers a wide area from the Great Wall of China to the Adriatic Sea. Turks strengthened their political dominance by establishing states in every geography where they existed, and deeply influenced their environment by preserving their social, political, economic and cultural lives thanks to their national identity in their cultural characteristics. Based on the definitions made on social studies, individuals are tried to be raised as active, sensitive and virtuous citizens thanks to the social studies course. While doing this, people or states aim to achieve this by instilling the national cultural elements and experiences they have within themselves to the next generation. Today's education and training programs have been created to ensure that individuals can live in harmony in social life. Social studies education has also been prepared for this purpose. Textbooks have a very important place among educational materials. The social studies course, which aims to raise effective citizens by preparing individuals for social life through education and training, must also have a well-prepared book. While historical subjects are discussed in the social studies textbook prepared as teaching material, some issues are inadequate, superficially handled, chronological errors, etc. It can be said that the deficiencies should be reviewed. In this context, the study aimed to evaluate the "Journey to History" unit in the 6th grade social studies textbook prepared by the Ministry of Education, according to teachers' opinions. In this context, open-ended questionnaire technique was used for the research. Keywords: Historical Journey Unit, 6th Grade Social Studies Textbook, Turkish History, Social Studies.
