Investigation of the influences of technology assisted mathematics learning environments on the mathematical abilities of hearing impaired students

New trends and developing technologies compose need for higher mathematical skills and ability for hearing impaired students' deploy in daily life. Hearing impaired students need to learn mathematics just like normal hearing peers so that they become independent individuals in society. In this study, it is aimed that how technology based mathematics learning environment designed affected to hearing impaired students' mathematics learning and skills and reflections from duration. As a first stage research problem was analyzed. For second stage, technology based mathematics learning environment was developed regarding ADDIE model. At third stage, effects of developed learning environment were applied to hearing impaired students mathematics learning environment and an effect of developed environment was investigated and reflections of findings were mentioned. Study was conducted to Trabzon Ortahisar Çamlık Hearing Impaired Students Primary School, in 2014-2015 learning semester, spring term to 3 third grade hearing impaired students during 13 weeks (65 hour). Case study method used in this study and data collected with interviews, observation forms, documents, field notes and video records. Obtained data was analyzed with qualitative analyze techniques. As a result, technology supported mathematics learning environment increased student's motivation, interest, participation level to courses and offer enriched practice and enhancement materials in a wide perspective. At this dimension, developed mathematics learning environment supplied effective solutions to teachers' existing problems related with inefficient and insufficient materials, motivation visualization, and interaction with students also developed environment increased students' self confidence concluding with success in mathematics course.
